Chapter One-

There wasn't anything weird that night, except for the fact that Nuka's eyes wouldn't stay shut as I tried to get her to finally go to sleep. God, she was stubborn.

"I promise you, Rocky! Something's not right!"

"Nuka, you're just tired. Shut up and go to bed." I'm rude when I'm tired, sorry.

"Dang it Rocky. You're going to wish you listened to me!"

And then, my dumb self fell asleep while Nuka wildly paced the panelled wooden floor, like a sane guard dog would do.

Now, not that any of us were necessarily guard dogs, but we definitely would protect our human family with our lives. Two adults and a little, two month old boy, they were our world. If only I was awake to protect them.

I slept soundly, not a care in the world about what Nuka had side. Besides, she was younger than me. Immature, right? Just playing games? Yeah, I thought.

My golden eyes finally cracked open as I smelled an odd smell, one so overwhelming that it awoke my right from my rest. "Nuka?" I asked, half my body still fully asleep as the white clouds danced in front of my vision. I blinked. The air stung my eyes as I shifted my gaze over to her mat. She wasn't there. She was there every night until Jacob woke up and cried, then she would run to his room. Jacob wasn't crying.

"Nukaaaa?" I repeated, my tail doing a couple thumps on the ground. She's pranked me before, and it was easy to tell myself that she'd done it again, but, however, that was no the case.

"Nuka!" My voice had finally reached a yell as my eyes snapped open, looking for my adopted sister. A bright like blazed in the kitchen, flicking against the walls, but it didn't help me find Nuka. Humans and their dumb nightlights.

I rose to my paws, my tall figure knocking against the underside of the coffee table, and I hissed in pain. Nonetheless, I crawled out from underneath the piece of furniture and went to investigate. The weird smell, Nuka not on her mat? Not usual.

I bounded upstairs to Jacob's room, the baby blue wall paper blending in with the blue-lighted lamp, and the blue carpet. Blue, blue, and more blue.

Propping my large, rust-colored paws up on the side of his crib, my tail swished from side to side as I peered inside. Sure enough, he was not crying. He was sound asleep. I jumped back down, scanning the room for Nuka. Still nothing.

"Hmph," I huffed, shaking my long, thick pelt. Trotting back down the stairs, I took a sharp left and went into masters' rooms, but almost started choking as the overwhelming smell filled my nostrils again. I sneezed.

There she was. As I walked in, I saw that my sister had both her feet propped up on the edge of the massive bed, and was whining like crazy.

"Nuka?" I asked, my voice low. Her startled, green eyes turned to me, wide.

"Rocky! I tried to wake you but you were out cold! I knew something was wrong! Don't you smell it!" Something about the fear in her voice told me that this wasn't a prank. This was real.

"W-what?" My tail stopped its wag. "What's wrong? What is it?"

"I don't know! It's coming from that bright thing over there!" Her eyes focused, and in their reflection, I saw a blazing orange light. Fire.

I lost my senses, my bark piercing the air as I began to howl with dispair. "NUKA! THAT'S A FIRE!"

Nuka was nearly crying herself as Emily and Josh rolled out of bed, questioning the both of us. When we ran out into the living room, they both screamed. Emily bolted up stairs. I've never seen her run so fast in her life.

"Oh God oh God oh God!" Nuka screeched, galloping up the stairs with Emily, skipping three steps at a time. I let out a nervous bark.

"Josh!" I yelled at my master, but of course he couldn't hear me. "Open the damn door!" My claws skidded against the wood as I sprinted towards the front door, but I squealed when I saw that the bright thing had beat me to it. A wave of heat washed over my body, my eyes shutting as it stung my eyes.

"Rocky!" Josh yelled in his scary voice, and I retreated, running back into the living room. It was getting hot.

Emily and Nuka ran back down the stairs, Jacob safe in my master's arms.

"The door!" ok i'm going to rewrite a lot of this i don't like it
